Brockville Community Foundation celebrates 35 years at AGM

Back in 1974, several community leaders with names like Runciman, Broome, Lindsay, Dailey and others got together to create a trust fund for the purpose of supporting community-building initiatives through financial grants. To date, that organization, now called the Brockville Community Foundation, has granted out over half a million dollars to over one hundred charities and projects in the region, mostly in the last ten years. On Tuesday, May 26th, the Foundation will hold its Annual General Meeting and will take some time to celebrate its 35th continuous year of serving the community.

“We would like to invite the people of Brockville and area to join us for a simple celebration of the work the Foundation has been doing over the past 35 years,” says Foundation Chair John Fischl, “after all, it’s the community’s foundation…it works because leaders in the community volunteer to make it work.”

A past chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Hunter Grant, will take a few moments at the meeting to recognize these past leaders who have served on the Foundation board. As well, the board will report on the work it has been doing over the past year, and its plans for the future.

“We are excited about what the future holds, as we launch a new Legacy Program to encourage citizens to prepare wills and consider charitable giving for causes they support,” says Fischl. The new Legacy Program is being run by active local citizen Virginia Glover, thanks to a two-year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The Brockville Community Foundation’s 2009 Annual General Meeting and 35th Anniversary Celebration will be held at the Brockville Yacht Club from 7:00 to 8:00pm, on Tuesday, May 26th. The meeting will be followed by hors d’oeuvres and, of course, a 35th birthday cake.
